Let's Talk About It: Muslim Journeys
The theme of this program introduces a way of understanding the past in which Islam and the West are seen as products of a shared, cosmopolitan, and inextricably intertwined past. The books discussed at each event help envision the world of our ancestors, which was as complex and dynamically interconnected as the world we live in today. At this event, enjoy a book discussion with a scholar-led public discussion based on: 'Leo Africanus' by Amin Maalouf, translated by Peter Sluglett. Dr. Paul A. Williams, project scholar, will introduce this historical novel and reflect on Islamic history depicted in fiction form. Afterward, the Muslim Journeys book club kits will be introduced. OPL is one of 125 libraries and state humanities councils nationwide receiving grants to host this series, which is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association.
